Robe City Chamber of commerce and Sectoral Associations has been re-established!
It is well known Oromia Chamber of commerce and Sectoral Associations holds the authority and responsibility of establishing city/woreda Chamber of commerce and Sectoral Associations. In this regard, the proclamation No. 341/95 clearly states that there should only be one Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations in one city. However, following Oromia regional government’s establishment of cities in 2015, Robe city, which is included Gobba, has not yet re-established chamber, and this has been the case until now.
On the other hand, although the Chamber of commerce and Sectoral Associations has been established for Robe and Gobba cities long time ago, there has been no significant action or representative activity under its name. As a result, it can be said that there is currently no functioning Chamber of commerce and Sectoral Associations in these cities. Despite this, the Oromia Chamber of Commerce has previously had plans to strengthen this chamber in Robe city, but due to various reasons, it has not been established until now.
Based on this, in collaboration with the Oromia Trade Bureau, it was decided on March 26, 2024, to re-establish the CSSA in Robe. Following the proposal of OCCSA, a meeting was held at which senior official from Oromia Trade Bureau, the Deputy mayor of Robe City, and the office of the Trade and Revenue of Robe City participated, and a representative body of the business community was selected. During the meeting, the business community expressed a strong desire to have their representatives in a formal and structured manner.
Accordingly, the community selected its representatives:
- Mr. Getahun Walabu (BA) – President of Robe CCSA
- Mr. Nuraddin Aman (MSc) – Vice President of Robe CCSA
Additionally, 9 members of the board were directly elected by popular vote to represent the business community and the government, committing to serve for the next two years.
Oromia Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations and Oromia Trade Bureau are pleased with the success of this initiative and the positive outcomes achieved!
